June 3 - The Social 10-1 final exam will be on Friday, June 17, from 1-3:00 pm. The exam will be in the
June 2 - We have been working on the PBL this week, product presentations will be on Monday and Tuesday (June 6 & 7) . Please be prepared to present on Monday.
May 25 - Today we began the Unit 4 PBL - Groups have been made and driving questions have been selected. PBL planning pages are due at the beginning of next class.
May 20 - We have completed the content for RI-3. The RI-3 Unit exam will be Monday, May 30 (50 source based multiple choice questions).
May 13 - We have spent considerable time editing our formative draft of the major essay, on Monday we will be in Lab#208 and will be writing the summative form. You will be allowed to bring in your planning page, checklist, transitions and major terms.
May 9 - Over the two classes we have been introduced to the Minor Paper - Persuasive Writing - we will be writing the formative essay in class on Tuesday, May 10, in the SRC.
April 27 - You were given today's class to complete the Key Terms activity for RI-3 - Next class we will continue with the Chapter 9 discussion.
April 27 - We have completed RI-2 and have begun looking at RI-3, please complete the study guide activity in preparation for the Unit 2 Exam on Monday, May 2. The exam will consist of 50 source based multiple choice questions and 2 bonus questions from the Rwanda Genocide quiz.
April 21 - We have been looking the concept of living with the legacies of historical globalization through the lens of the Rwanda Genocide and Apartheid. On Monday, May 2, we will be having the Unit Exam for RI-2.
Apr. 15 - The class was given the opportunity to review following cases that examine legacies and patterns of historical globalization.

Apr. 13 - Yesterday we examined the historical legacy of residential schools in Canada. Today we looked at another legacy through the lens of the Quiet Revolution and the October Crisis. Please be reminded that we will be having a Chapter 5 and 6 quiz on Monday, April 18. The quiz will be 10 source based multiple choice questions. |
Apr.12 - Yesterday we completed the Minor Paper, you can expect this to be marked and returned on Monday, April 18th. Today we will continue to look at some of the legacies of globalization in Canada. Specifically, Residential Schools and the Quiet Revolution will be examined.
Apr. 5- Today we began discussing Ch. 6 -Legacies of Globalization, we will continue next class with part 2 of Ch. 6. Please remember, you will be writing the summative Minor Paper on Monday, April 11, in Rm.#208.
Mar. 23- Students wrote the formative source analysis (minor paper) in class today, please ensure you bring a completed copy to class tomorrow where we will do a peer evaluation.
Mar.21 - During class today we worked in groups to gain insight regarding the sources and the relationship between sources for the formative source analysis we will be writing on Wednesday. Next class we will be discussing Chapter 5.
Mar.17 - The Minor Paper - Source Analysis - was introduced today. Over the next few classes we will be preparing to write the formative minor paper. We will be writing the paper on Wednesday, Mar.23 in Lab#208.
Mar. 7 - Today class groups put the final touches on their Pop Culture Project Presentations.
Mar. 2- We began project work today, we will continue this work tomorrow in Lab #116. Projects will be presented Mar. 9th and 10th.
Mar. 1 - We completed the Chapter 4 presentation today and the Pop Culture Project was introduced. We will be meeting in Lab #208 on Wednesday, Mar. 2.
Chapter 1 & 2 Quiz on Wednesday, Feb. 24. All material covered in class and the chapter notes may be tested. 10 source based questions.
Glocal - refers to the individual, group, division, unit, organization, and community which is willing and able to "think globally and act locally." When we understand how global events have an impact on our local communities and vice-versa, how local actions have an impact on the global community, we are thinking "glocal".

Global Village - First coined by Marshall McLuhan, is a term that symbolizes the growing connections among people around the world. The world as a single community of interdependent inhabitants who are interconnected by contemporary technology, especially television and the World Wide Web.

Feb. 12 - We completed Ch. 1 presentation including the Ch. 1 Keepers. We began Ch. 2 with a discussion of the forces of globalization. We will continue Ch. 2 next class.

Feb. 9 - Today the "Who Am I?" collage project was introduced. Tomorrow we will be in Lab #116 and will continue to work on the project. Project due date is Thursday, February 18.
Feb. 8 - We completed the presentation on identity and examined the Lubicon Cree case study. Tomorrow we will be in computer lab #116 and will begin our first project.
Feb. 5 - Today we discussed the MYP - IB Learner Profile and discussed our relative strengths and areas where we may improve this term. We also began Ch. 1 ppt. Globalization and Identity and will continue with this next class. Ensure you have completed the Key Terms Activity by Monday's class.
Feb. 4 - Class was given time to work on RI-1 Key Terms Activity - Students investigated and defined the key terms from RI-1.
